Tatung
investment to produce solar grade silicon wafer
Green Energy Technology (GET)
will start production in 2005 Q2
Merrimack, NH, USA – August 4, 2004: GT Solar Technologies, a division of
GT Equipment Technologies, Inc. and an internationally-recognized
manufacturer of photovoltaic (PV) solar wafer, cell and module
manufacturing equipment, has received an order to install a turnkey
multi-crystal silicon wafer manufacturing line at Green Energy Technology
Inc., a new subsidiary of Tatung Company in Taiwan.
Tatung Company already has extensive experience making silicon wafers for
the semiconductor industry through its San-Chih Semiconductor Company
subsidiary, and is entering the PV wafer market as a logical step to
expand its business into the fast-growing solar industry. The wafers are
the primary component for the production of solar electric panels.
The wafers will be sold to the PV industry to make solar electric panels.
The industry has experienced a rapid growth in the past six years
averaging 36% growth per year. The solar panel industry worldwide produced
approximately 750 Megawatts of panels in 2003 valued in excess of $2
billion. The primary markets for these panels are in Germany, Japan and
the USA.
General Manager of GT Solar, Keith Matthei, said: “Although Green Energy’s
factory is designed to manufacture enough solar wafers to make 25 MW of
solar panels per year, there is room in the facility to allow for
expansion to several hundred MW. GT Solar’s wafer manufacturing line will
be installed early next year and features our new DSS series of
multi-crystal ingot growth furnaces.”
CEO and President of GT Equipment Technologies, Dr. Kedar Gupta, said: “GT
Solar is extremely pleased to have Tatung select us as their partner to
get into the PV business. This is a true win-win situation for the two
companies to work together to help fill the gap between demand and supply
of wafers in this industry. ”
President of Green Energy Technology, Inc. and San-Chih Semiconductor
Company, Mr. Hurlon Lin, said: “San Chih has been in the silicon wafer
business since 1975 and is familiar with most of the processes to make
solar grade silicon wafers. Furthermore, the existing building and
facilities in our Kuanyin Plant help to expedite this project. On the
other hand, with existing connections we can sell wafers to solar cell
makers in Taiwan and the worldwide market.”
Chairman of Green Energy Technology, Inc. and President of Tatung Company,
Mr. W. S. Lin, said: “This is an important investment for the Tatung Group
of companies. Tatung Company and Tatung University have already devoted a
lot of resources to the energy industry, such as fuel cell and wind
energy. We understand the importance of solar energy when there is a
shortage of crude oil. It will be relatively difficult for Taiwan to get
energy resources if we have to compete with big countries; therefore, we
have to develop commercialized alternative energy. Tatung Company knows
the potential of solar energy and will commit more resources to it.”

interactive display development
Tatung's complete Web Pad solution to provide
core compute engine for new Pixio ShelfSeller™
displays.
Portland, Ore. - April 18, 2002 - Pixio
Corporation, the systems innovator in distribution of digital
point-of-purchase merchandising content, announced its partnership with
Tatung Company in selecting Tatung's Web Pad to power Pixio's ShelfSeller?
interactive displays. Tatung Company is Taiwan's leading manufacturer of
computer and communication products, electronics, home appliances and
industrial equipment, and their Web Pad.
"The mechanical sturdiness, integrated wireless
applications environment, and high-quality display were key factors in our
decision to design the Pixio ShelfSeller around Tatung," noted Paul Long,
Vice-President of Product Development for Pixio Corporation. "Moreover,
Tatung's commitment to Microsoft's .NET architecture assured Pixio of a
robust development environment."
Alan Pan, General Manager for Tatung Company,
adds his enthusiasm for the Pixio business partnership. "Tatung's Web Pad
is ideally designed for support of vertical applications such as Pixio's
distributed retail display network. We look forward to a long-term
relationship for continued enhancement of this platform for their
application." Tatung Company, with headquarter based in Taiwan, is
expecting to work with partners to bring the product to the market under
ODM/OEM model, in which Tatung's customers can take products to markets
with their brand names, using the integrated product services (IPS) that
Tatung offers. Through Tatung's IPS, Tatung's customers get support for
design, manufacturing, logistics and warranty services from Tatung's
global network that covers North America, Europe and Asia.
Pixio's interactive ShelfSeller? display is an
integral part of Pixio.NET?, a newly-introduced management service
enabling retailers to publish tailored, targeted product promotional
information to individual digital displays positioned on store shelves
across entire retail chains. Pixio's ShelfSeller? display represents the
first shelf-sized, wirelessly-networked digital display that allows
consumers to navigate through promotional campaign images distributed
through Pixio.NET. By providing customers with richer information about
product options directly at the in-store, on-shelf point of decision,
Pixio helps enrich the shopping experience and encourage on-the-spot sales
results.
About Pixio Corporation
