TATUNG Successfully Developed Mira Smart Display Devices

Taipei, Taiwan, March 13, 2002 - TATUNG Company, the 7 billion global leading design and manufacturing company, announced to have successfully developed a wireless smart display device based on Mira, a set of Microsoft Windows technologies that will enable a new generation of smart display devices. This device will be demonstrated in both Tatung and Microsoft booths at CeBIT Show

Mira is the code name of a software product developed by Microsoft Corp. for smart display products. Microsoft first demonstrated the Mira product concept at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas in early 2002. With wireless LAN and touch-screen LCD panels, a Mira-enabled device allows a user to use the home Windows XP-based PC remotely within the wireless LAN coverage.

Tatung has been developing the Mira display products with Microsoft's support. Dr. Alan Pan, the General Manger of Tatung Company explains Tatung's product strategy, "Tatung is convinced with Microsoft's vision of smart display products that integrate PC, wireless networking and embedded devices together for a convenient usage model." Dr. Pan further commented, "Tatung's role is to quickly develop the product and help our customers to serve the market need. We believe Mira is a major evolution of both LCD monitors and Web tablets. Tatung will continue to work with its ODM/OEM customers "

"Tatung is particularly excited with the features of Mira that are built on top of Windows CE .NET. As an active developer of Windows Embedded systems, we believe our expertise in software development can help to build a consumer grade product in terms of user friendliness, ergonomics and mobility in the home," Dr. Pan explained. One of the most important features of Mira is the built-in Remote Desk Top (RDP) protocol that allows user to use the smart display as if it were attached to a PC.

"Consumers are looking for simple ways to make their computing experience more comfortable and flexible within their homes, and our goal with Mira is to address these needs," said Keith White, senior director of marketing for the Embedded and Appliance Platforms Group at Microsoft. "We are excited to have Tatung commit to delivering smart display devices that will offer the rich functionality of Mira in an innovative form factor, enabling consumers to experience the power of Windows XP from anywhere in the home."

Tatung plans to demonstrate this product in booth number B32 of Hall 2 at CeBIT Show 2002, Mar.13 to 20 in Hanover, Germany.

Tatung Mira device is also showing in hall no. 5 in the Digital eXPerience section of the Microsoft Windows XP booth.
